gertrude florence mallandaine + george huxtable clarke

Gertrude was born on 26 September 1877 at 35 Bigland Street in Salford. She was the daughter of Isaac Mallandaine and his third wife Caroline North. Gertrude was baptised on 24 October at St Bartholomew in Salford.

On 1 January 1903, she married George Huxtable Clarke at the Stowell Memorial Church in Salford with her younger brother Charles standing as one of the witnesses. When they married, Gertrude was living at the family home at 43 Doddington Street in the Ordsall neighbourhood of Salford and George lived next door at number 41. George was born on 22 October 1875 at 26 Pownall Street in Hulme, Manchester to Arthur Clarke, an Ironmonger, and his wife Caroline Duckett. George was a widower, having lost his wife shortly after marrying in 1900, and in 1901, he was living with his family at 128 Brunswick Street, South Manchester and working as an Electric Lamp Repairer.

They had two sons: George Arthur was born on 9 May 1904 and Stanley on 15 June 1906.

By 1911, they had moved to Altrincham, about 8 miles south west of the city of Manchester, and were living in 5 rooms at 52 Lock Road. At that time, the town was in the county of Cheshire but it is now considered part of Greater Manchester. George listed his occupation as an Electrician on Arc Lamps. The lamps were widely used in the 1870s primarily for street lighting and produced light by creating an arc between two metal electrodes.

Their son George Arthur married Rose Smith near Brigg in Lincolnshire in 1936 but returned to Manchester where their three children were born.

In 1939, Florence and George were living at 17 Weldon Road in Altrincham and George was working as an Electric Lineman. Their eldest son, George Arthur, was living at 2 Wellgate Avenue in Manchester with his wife and young daughter; he was working as an Aircraft Fitter.

George died at their home on Weldon Road in 1946 followed by Gertrude in 1962; probate on her £500 estate was granted to her son George on 14 September in Manchester. Their son Stanley died in Manchester in 1995 and George Arthur died in 1999.
