frederick george mallandain + sarah ann bloy

Frederick was born on 5 March 1876 to William Samuel Mallandain and Jane Bull and baptised at St Mary, Haggerston on 23 April.

He married Sarah Ann Bloy on 15 April 1900 at St Mary with his brother Ernest standing as one of the witnesses. Fred was living with his family at 5 Pownall Road and working as a Warehouseman when he married. Sarah born on 2 August 1877 in Weasenham, Norfolk to James Bloy, a Clerk.

When the census was taken one year later, Fred and Sarah were living in two rooms in a house at 49 Broke Road in the parish of St Leonard in Shoredtich. He was still working as a Warehouseman but the census also records the nature of employment and notes that he worked in a Hatters warehouse.

By 1911, they had moved back to Pownall Road and were living next door to Frederick’s father and younger sister Beatrice. Again, they occupied only two rooms and he was still working as a Hatters Warehouseman. Later that year, on 8 October 1911, their only child, Frederick William, was born at their home on Pownall Road.

They left Pownall Road about 1918—19 and settled at 5 Millfields Road, between Millfields Park and Hackney Common, in the Clapton area of Hackney. It is not known if Frederick continued to work as a Warehouseman but in June 1928, a notice in the London Gazette confirmed his appointment as a Temporary Postman Messenger.

In the summer of 1936, their son Frederick William married Dorothy Gardner in Hackney but there is no record of any children of the marriage. In 1939, they were living at 16 Frankland Road in Chingford in Essex along with his wife’s sister Annie and Fred was working as a Sorting Clerk at the Post Office.

Fred and Sarah were still living at 5 Millfields Road in Hackney but he was no longer working as a Postman but as a ‘Collector & Estimating Clerk Window & General Cleaning’. Sarah died in Hackney in 1949 and Fred in 1958. Their son and his wife left London and moved to Lytham St Anne's near Blackpool in Lancashire. They lived at 47 Arundel Road until Frederick William died on 29 January 1989 and his wife Dorothy on 7 August 1993.
